What is allergic rhinitis?

Allergy is actually an overactivity of the immune system. The task of the immune system is to recognize foreign proteins entering the body and react to them and render them harmless. It does this by producing substances called antibodies against foreign proteins. In allergy, the immune system produces excessive antibodies against foreign proteins, which leads to extreme reactions in the body.

Allergic rhinitis, on the other hand, is a kind of inflammatory reaction that occurs with the reaction of the tissue lining the nose when people encounter an allergen to which they are sensitive.

Allergic rhinitis begins before the age of 20 in 80% of patients. However, there is a possibility that it can also be seen in older ages.

Reasons such as having a family history of allergy, high sociocultural level, air pollution in cities, animal nutrition in the home, and increased consumption of additives cause the frequency of allergic rhinitis to increase gradually.
